I have a 04 diesel sharan auto, it is sticking in 2nd gear until about 3000 rpm and then it jumps into either 4th or 5th gear, not sure? my local auto trans. specialist? has changed the valve body. that cured the fault but it came back exactly the same after a couple of days, that was the middle of october. now he is saying that he is not sure if the gearbox is faulty or if it icould be the ECU. the car has done 180,000 miles, any body had this problem before?

Those boxes are the source of constant grief and I have seen a few older Sharalmbras scraped due to the cost of a new box. Has the gearbox ECU been read for fault codes?

Well the valve bodies are a known problem but if it is playing up like this it should leave a code. If the valve body is faulty it will be under guarantee but if it has failed due to dirty ATF the warranty will be void, I think the repairer has a duty to deal with this. Where did the valve body come from? VW parts have a two year warranty supported by the dealer network so if it was a genuine part, the dealer will do the work included in the warranty AS LONG AS the valve body is at fault and has not been damaged by any other factor. If the original repairer is proving reluctant to help you need to go somewhere else for more advice and possibly a repair and then take up the issue in the time honoured way.
