    Hi,
I've just noticed the fan on my 04 Touran has stopped working on settings '1' and '2'. Settings '3' and '4' are fine. Would this be a switch fault or something deeper?
    Thanks.

The speeds are set using a set of resistors in a pack placed in the blower which cools them down as on lower seating, there is a lot of heat wasted. Normally when the resistor pack fails all but the max speed are lost but we are replacing a LOT of these fans and resistors which are separate parts.

Hi, hence the question. What dealings I've had on other cars has been all failed except max. Is this a dash out job or keyhole surgery through the radio dock?

The blower and resistor are glovebox out jobs.

A quick look around suggests I'm looking for a 4 pin socket with a sort of heatsink arrangement on the back of it. Would that be right?

Ok, watched a couple of youtube vids and plucked up the courage to go a'rummaging.
With the soft cover off from the underside of the glovebox, I found a resistor pack, unplugged it and tested it as per one of the videos. It does appear to be kaput. Tried the fan without it and only speed 4 works, plugged it back in and had 3 and 4, so I do feel I'm heading in the right direction.
    Part on order.

Yay! £8.50 part off fleabay, 5 minutes of fitting and I've got 4 speeds again.
    Thanks for the guidance.
