    VW Tiguan 2.0 TDI 4motion 2009 AWD -- 5N_ Diesel SUV 1968cc 103KW 140HP CBAB

I have an intermittent fault on my Tiguan, when oil temperature on the display shows 97 degrees C the engine loses power and driving becomes juddery. If I turn the heater fan on full and the oil temperature drops below 97 degrees the vehicle regains its power and juddering stops. The engine management light never lights up and on VCDS there are no fault codes. Anybody have and idea what could be causing this problem?

If there are no fault codes using a decent system such as VCDS, that suggests to me a stuck open thermostat. This part on this engine is in such demand that a replacement is on back order from VW.

Thanks for your response Crasher, the water temperature is normal and stays at 90 degrees would this be the case if the thermostat was stuck open and how would that effect the oil temperature? I forgot to mention in my original post that this has happened twice now but I have driven 530 miles in between the fault occurring with two journeys of over 100 miles.

What the dash gauge shows is irrelevant, typically it will show 90 at a real 77 and still say 90 at 117, the only way to know what is going on is to view the live data feed in measuring blocks.

Update: After doing several runs data logging and everything looking ok. The car was supposed to have had a full service when I bought it in August 2020 but I had no idea if the correct oil was used and if all the filters had been changed. I did a full service oil, fuel filter, oil filter, cabin filter and coolant change (it was obvious the fuel filter had not been changed for some time). I am also now running on Shell V power diesel and so far after 500 miles the problem has not reoccurred and the car is running much better.

    Thanks for all the suggestions.
