My 2012 audi TT 2.0 TDI had a faulty rear prop shaft coupler. 35,000 miles only! The rubber insert was cracking. This was an advisory on MoT but told it would fail if any worse. So I chose to get it fixed. The issue seems to be that Audi do not sell the part alone meaning one must purchase the entire prop shaft costing £1526 (not sure if that is plus VAT as I was still picking myself up off the floor) PLUS FITTING
The reality is you can buy the coupler on its own, just not from Audi. To do this you need the part number which means removing all the bits and then searching a supplier. My local Indy were brilliant and did all the chasing and searching. He had a range of part prices from about £180 to £240 but chose the more expensive as he knew the brand was excellent.

so to help you all out there I attach a photo of said part where you can see the part number on the rubber. At least you can then get the part in advance of starting the work. The part number is IFA 4 000 00 08 10 012 >NR< 7 TTV01-002 SGF Germany
That is all the writing on it. Not sure if the first bit is to do with the year (08 10 012) as it is a 2012 car and the rest is the part number. But it’s a start for you!
    Good luck

I am not sure where you live. It was a local garage in Stourbridge that fixed it and they sourced the part (i don’t know where from)
what i would say is when the old part was given to me and it was not faulty!!
the rubber insert looks as if it is cracking but in fact this iis how they are made.
i took the part to the garage that mot’d the car (not the repairer) and they apologised and confirmed an error had been made, but not after I had forked out a few hundred pounds.
so just be 100% sure yours has indeed failed.
mine is in the shed kept as a spare in the unlikely event i will ever need it

Thank you kindly, I’m off to Stourbridge tonight oddly enough to collect a car, wrapped by Vivid Vinyls 👍 …mine is definitely perishing, we get a wobble-on between 80-90….never noticed it till a recent Ring trip…checked wheel alignment and drive-shafts but the rear coupler looks to be the culprit - understandable after 100k miles. Can’t remember the business by any chance? No worries if not, thank you for answering 👍

If anyone is looking for the correct coupler it’s; AUDI Q3 QUATTRO 8UB 8UG PROPSHAFT FLEXIBLE COUPLING REAR 1K0521307A …Audi want you to buy the complete prop-shaft for the TT, this is the rear coupler only, fits, works!

It has changed part number to 5Q0 521 307 but is daft money from VW at £562.80, there are lots of aftermarket sources such as the Febi 40931 which is less than half that.
