Looks like I need an adaptor then, for usb a stick to usb c socket, and a new phone cable. Trust VW to change from the standard that millions of people have.

Your car should have come with a usb-c phone cable of your choosing. Also I have bought these for my Audi A6 https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07CVX35...ing=UTF8&psc=1

    It's 2021... The standard is usb c.

Are you surprised it doesn't come with a tape deck?

Thanks John Simcox, unfortunately I can't find any leads in the car so presume someone at the dealership has lifted it. Still exploring what's different from my 2017 Golf.

2021 it is; funny how much tech stuff is still selling with usb a ports. Looks like usb c isn't the modern standard after all - there are lots of connector types and protocols in all sorts of state of the art gear. I'd stake a fiver there'll be another smartass comment after this.

The salesperson should ask you which one you want. When we Hoy our car they mistakenly gave me a usb-a one so had to go back and change it.
