    Hi All

Looking for some help please, been away from Audi for a few years now but now looking at purchasing a a6 c7 model either in saloon or avant and have been reading of issues with the multitronic boxes so would instead will go for s-tronic box my question is can you tell from looking at the car externally if it has a multitronic box or a s-tronic box, some people comment if it has the twin exhaust to the left side it is multitronic and if it has the exhaust pipe to the right and the left it is s-tronic is this TRUE.
I have to look at a 2013 a6 avant 177bhp with only 68kms with full service history tomorrow and also a 2015 a6 sline st ultra tech pack 190bhp full service history and 137kms and sport function.

    all help is greatly appreiated.

    177 is a multi, 190 is s-tronic. Simple.

Read all through this forum, do a search for multitronic problems, won't find ANY post 2011. Just make sure it's had its oil changes at 38k and your good to go.

My understanding in relation to exhaust pipes is this, two together on the same side it is a 2L, two round one each side a 3L and face lift has one each side for any engine size. The model year will give an indication to which box except for the C7facelift which I understand is S-Tronic. This info is not in relation to S or RS models which have multiple exhausts, and I wish I owned...

The 2013 car will definitely be CVT, assuming it is not a quattro, and the 2015 will be an s-tronic. The 2015 car should also be a facelift car (exhaust on each side exiting through a trapezoid hole in the bumper). The Ultra engine was introduced pre the facelift so, in the UK at least, there are some pre-facelift cars with the ultra engine and they have round exhausts one each sire. The 177 car will have 2 pipes on the left side. The 2015 car, which you say has the Tech Pack, will have the revised 4G/LTE sat nav system and the ability to display the map between the dials in the intrument panel

Hi ,the 2013 is 177 it is not the face lift but has the exhaust pipes to the right and left in circular shape ?
Looked at a 190 ultra 2014 se saloon today and it had the same exhaust to the rear as the 2013 we are looking at tomorrow so confused now is there a code in the chassis number the tells you if it is multitronic or s tronic.

If it is a 190 ultra then it is s-tronic. If it is a 2014 then unlikely to be a facelift version.

Look at the build code stickers and look for the gearbox code. You'll 100% know which type of gearbox is fitted without grovelling around underneath.

Very happy to say I purchased the 2014 with s-tronic gearbox.
All oil and filters changed and two oil changed in gearbox.
