    Hi,
I have a 2005 Audi A6 with the 2.4L V6 engine and the six-speed manual transmission that all of a sudden won't start anymore. When I turn on the car I can hear the fuel pump running but when I turn the key to ignition there is just a distinct click (starter relay I presume) and nothing else happens.

During the pandemic I have not been driving it as much as I used to but I have used it about once per month at least and I did not notice any signs of problems and it always started normallly but when I went to start it about six weeks ago it wouldn't start anymore. I noticed a slight dimming of the interior lights and since the car had been sitting for a while, with no trickle charger attached, I suspected that the battery was the issue since it is close to ten years old. After installing a brand new battery however the same issue remains.

I measured the voltage on the starter and it is getting a constant 12.9V. Is it normal for it to get a constant supply even when the car is not turned on? My plan was to measure if it was getting a voltage supply when I turned on the ignition but I guess it has a built-in relay (unlike my previous cars).

Not really sure where to go from here and would appreciate any help on how I can troubleshoot the problem. I have attached a scan of the car with VCDS but it does not show any faults that weren't already there while the car was still working.

This is usually water damage in the ebox in the plenum chamber but the infotainment system errors make me suspect water damage in the boot below the right rear light unit but I would have to study the wiring diagram at work to follow my hunch. Last week I had in an A4 8K much newer than yours with similar symptoms and this had a corroded wiring coupling under the right rear light unit and these have wiring architecture much like the A6 4F.
