Right job done. Rubber mallet loosened the discs and they lifted out with a bit of a wiggle and without having to remove the caliper carrier bolts (300mm solid discs).

Outer pads were seized solid in the pad carriers on both sides due to rust build up. New Brembo discs and pads from ECP (£100) fitted and now all moving freely.

The only issues I had were poor access to the top caliper bolt (7mm Hex) so I used the bit and an adjustable spanner.
OBDELEVEN tool was playing up a bit but eventually wound pistons in/out and cleared the two error codes I was left with.

Glad I did it myself. VW wanted £300 to do it and an indi probably £200 for inferior quality parts. I think I will clean the caliper carriers and regrease the pads annually at service time.

    Thanks for all your advice.
