I was looking for some guide here as this noise is driving me mad.

Purchased a 2009 A5 few months and was aware the 4 shocks needed replacing at time of purchase.

Replaced all 4 corners and the ride has been transformed back to how it should be from factory.

There is no noise on the rear until I put 2 passengers in rear and it makes squeking noise going over the slightest bumps. If no passengers in the car I only hear the noise if I drive over a steep bump. Its not a knock sound but more like 2 baloons rubbing. Its like the weight of passengers in the rear makes the noise worse.

I have replaced the front strut mnth but not replaced the rear as i uderstand these don go bad or do they... but there was no noise before I replaced the shocks but just bouncy ride. The shocks I removed was completely dead and had no resistance.

The replacement shocks are brand new Sach.

Did you tighten the bolts at the ends of the shocks with the car lowered, so that the full weight was on the wheels?

If you tighten them while on jacks the rubber bushes are distorted when the car is lowered, and will fail prematurely.

Appreciate your time for the reply
I followed 2 Youtube video and intially tightened without leveling the suspension. I did not think anything of this but 1 week later loosended the bolt and tighted properly again properly with the suspension properly loaded. In that 1 week I have driven about 30miles so would that damage the bushes? Also the noise was from the next day after I changed the shocks

Another thing the bolt was very hard to thread in..is it possible to cross thread it?

The bushes are probably OK, but time will tell. Just keep an eye on them.

Re. the bolt, I can't say, as I'm not familiar with the layout on your car. I was referring to shock absorber installation (and any linkages with rubber bushes) in general.

I will just go ahead and replace the top mounts to rule that out.
