Engine Swap - Fitting a 1.6 FSI BLF or BLP into a BAG engine code

Hi I am looking to swap out my engine for another 1.6 FSI.

Looking at ETKA there is a few engine codes I can use BKG, BLN, BAG, BLP, BLF.


They only noticeable difference I can see is with the fuel pump and fuel lines......

See images below.


My BAG Engine code variant has the older style HPFP with 4 mounting bolts and 3 lines / pipes coming from it (the newer ones have only 3 mounting bolts and 2 lines / pipes coming

from the pump).


Looks like mine has additional breather line? The fuel tank images from ETKA also show 2 options for part number 3 (or 3A) - where it either has 2 lines / pipes or 3 lines / pipes.

Would one be redundant or would I need to remove the additional pipe? Or do I need different fuel pump (LPFP / in tank pump) and fuel tank to be able to retrofit this engine?

Will there be any issue retrofitting another engine to my vehicle?

Will anything need to be coded or paired? Or is it simply a straight swap?

A quick look shows the pre 2005 BAG had different cams so if yours is a 2004, the late cams may upset the ECU.

Ahh ok so need to find an engine that is like for like? Has to have the same HPFP? Has to be BAG from 2004?

Yep mine is from 2004.

I think with the early cams the ECU may get confused, the HPFP SHOULD just be a matter of fitting the later type but these ECU's are so sensitive I have seen them object to even having the slightly incorrect gearbox fitted.
