My Altea handbrake has been getting progressively weak for a while now to the point where i have to pull it on about ten clicks to get it to hold the car. I have seen Youtube videos how to adjust it but the problem is accessing the gubbins.
I tried to prize of the rear of the centre console as i understand it's retained by four "clips" but i backed off with the broad flat head screw driver because it felt like any more applied pressure would snap the housing.
Any ideas with this problem please?

    Cheers.
    Neil.

If you need to adjust the cable a caliper has failed, usually the right, the adjuster is only there to set up the system, no in service adjustment is required. If you look under the car at the handbrake lever, you will see it is not returning to its stop.

On the PQ35 platform (Golf 5,6, Altea etc) we do roughly four times as many right calipers as left and even then some of the lefts we do are because the customer requests it.
