    Hi There,
There is a gearbox oil leak on my 2012 6 speed manual 2.0 diesel, 90k! From what I have read something breaks off in the gearbox housing and can potentially cause a hole in the gearbox!!! I am expecting the worst. A garage has already quoted £2609 for recon gearbox, clutch, their time and other bits. To keep the cost down I thought maybe to get the gearbox repaired, but I recognise that this desicion cannot be made until the part has been removed. Does anyone have any experience on this. Looking forward to any relies, good and bad.... Thank you

As I have said on the “other” forum, yes as with all transverse VAG boxes since 1973, the diff rivets can fail and make a break for freedom out of the case. Your box is a 02M series and recently I retro fitted one of these into my Octavia 1 to make it six speed, this made a noise like a coffee grinder on the overrun so I pulled and gutted it to rebuild, whilst doing this I replaced the diff rivets with an ARP 02M diff bolt kit for peace of mind.

The gearbox has been removed the issue can now be seen. Part for the clutch has broken. Its still attatched to the clutch but has been rubbing on the gearbox that it has worn a few small holes in the gear box. The mechanic who has removed the gearbox has seen this before and has had the gearboxes sucessfully welded. I am yet to hear the outcome of mine.
You can see exactly what has happened in the photographs.

Has it cut right through? Magnesium is evil to weld, I had someone try on a special 02M I was building and it just disintegrated.
