Water getting into the rear footwells 2012 A6

I've noticed damp in the rear footwells. After heavy rain, water gets in on the drivers side when the car is parked with the drivers side to the road and the passenger side when that side is on the road side. Never both together - I assume that this is due to the slight camber on the road making the car lean slightly when it's parked on the street, just enough for one side to leak.

We had some snow recently - this is London, so only 1/2 an inch or so - and when I went to the car after the snow had gone there was 1/4 inch of water in the rear footwell, so either the leak is getting worse or the snow melt made it particularly bad.

Anyone else experience this and know which seals where are likely to be the problem? I really don't think it's coming in forward of the B-pillar, as the front footwells are never damp.

Unfortunately I don't have a driveway, so not easy to dry it out, especially as the sound insulation must also be sopping wet. Any suggestions for drying it out?

2012 A6s had an issue with the seals around the speakers in the doors not being fitted correctly leading to water entering the car. There was an official fix for so worth checking if your car had the work done. Not sure if a dealer would do the work for free after so long though

I don't have a sunroof, should have mentioned that at the start, because I've also read the horror stories about those leaking, and not just in Audis!

Thanks - I'd read about this but thought it only affected the front doors, so I'm wondering if the same problem affects both front and rear doors, or if it's just the front doors if the water actually ends up in the rear footwell.

I've got to get the car in for MOT and service in March, so will have the speaker seals examined and fixed if possible - there's nothing in the service book to show that was ever done. I wonder if Audi UK have a record of work done, or would I have to contact every servicing dealer (I bought the car at 3 years old).

Any Audi dealer should be able to tell you what work has been done to the car whilst within the Audi franchise network. Other thought and this may seem silly, but are you parking the car on a slope? If so try parking it facing the other way. May not cure the problem but would possibly stop it in the short term as the water would flow in a different direction

I had water in the rear but the source was the speakers in the front, first time it happened the front carpet was wet but then it was dry so likely there is route to the rear that doesn't soak the front carpets. The fix was to re seal the lower door speakers but I also laid micro fibre cloths on the door ledge inboard of the door seals and this caught the moisture before I could fix it and once fixed confirmed to me that the repair was good. To get rid of the water I was old school and used newspaper laid under the floor mats, changed regularly and micro fibre clothes to remove the excess first. I also ran a dehumidifier in the car to dry it out but the mopping up method worked really well.

I had booked the car in for MOT and service on the 22nd March anyway, so I had the garage investigate the problem. They took the drivers side rear door card off and found a rubber securing clip had perished and split, so replaced that and did a water test - no water now getting in. The replacement part cost 95p. Fingers crossed. I may see if I can take the other door card off myself and replace the one on that side, as it seems to be an easy fix. The hard bit is probably getting the right part!
