I had forgotten the joy of vw electrics..I disconnected the battery again this morning and have a long drive this morning so will see what happens. It has lasted a couple of hours so far.
Would cleaning the terminals on convenience unit help! I can't afford a new one. Could I get a salvage one, if I found someone with vagcom to reprogram it?

A used one is OK, I don't like much in the way of used parts these days, they have caused me too much trouble, but then again as I said above, a new convenience unit from TPS was faulty straight out of the box.

Fair enough. And the saga continues. The door electrics have worked fine so far today, just jumped into car, and no battery/oil light on ignition, no indicators on dash, although they are working, no cruise control symbol etc. Have just got home, turned off, left for 10 mins, and all working now. Could this be the convenience unit too??!!

I would say your battery has a failing cell, it makes PQ35 platform cars do all sorts of odd things.

Wow...the electrical complexities of these cars are endless! Thanks for all your advice. Will try and replace battery, keep an eye on things for a while. Cheers Adam

If you think that is bad, you should avoid an MQB platform car such as the Golf 7, the electrics are insane. What pleasures the Golf 8 holds in store for me I dread to think.
