Hello, I was looking for a forum for owners of the New Beetle 98-2011, I have owned an Audi B6 S4 for almost 10 years now but after 10 years of shopping trolley dings, rusty wings n other tings I have sent her for a refresh. Therefore I needed a 'temporary' car to keep me mobile. Being an industrious chap I though I would 'invest' in a cheap classic in the waiting. Now normally I am fastidious about buying a car but given the wrath of this plague I had to do the unthinkable and buy long distance if I wanted the car and spec that was most desirable.

So off I searched among the usual suspects, Golf MKIV 2.0 ? mmmm maybe not, a rough mkIV 20v ? 170,000 miles sir and 12 careful owners ? no tah. I even became so confused I started to look at £1500 TT's but that would have been utter madness eh ?

Then my joke backfired on me when I found a 2004 manual Beetle 1.8t in black with cream leather and 'all the trimmings', could I own a new Beetle, well for a little over £2000 delivered from the sunny climes of Devon it was worth a punt, it was also advertised by a reputable dealer so I felt 'fairly' confident in my actions.

Spoke to the dealer on the phone ( we shall refer to him as ATC ) and he was very informative about the car without realising how rare it was I thought I had 'scored a belta'.

Well the car arrived during a 'white out' so any chance to test drive it off the trailer was gone, the next 3 days we waited while we were 'gifted -3 to -6 temperatures to keep the ground frozen.

Well eventually the ground thawed so off the driveway with the beetle and a test drive to get petrol.

    WIBBLE WOBBLE WIBBLE WOBBLE

Had I bought a clown car ?, I know my S4 is firm but she is still on 100k suspension so I expected some slack. The Beetle was in another league.............

CLUNK BANK TING underneath sounded like I had run over a cocaine fuelled steel band, when you hit the brakes the car dared you to guess which direction she was going to go in as the pads ground the discs like only steel on steel could. The windows only went down, the hatch only opens if your quick enough to get to it before it re-locks itself. And low and behold after 10 miles the engine management light said a cheery hello ( almost as though someone had reset them very recently )

Oh dear I've been had by ATC and I should have known better, the car had a cracked windscreen, the exhaust was clinging on to its mount by a knats pube and the anti roll bar should have sat in a casino where people could gamble on where it was off to next.

But alas I have an illness, my mother called it 'broken bird' syndrome on account of the amount of waifs and strays I would bring home ( generally on the last throws of life ) so the old DNA kicked in and i started scouring euro car parts website.

So here we go again, Audi in the Bodyshop followed by a 'Pelican', and now ontop of that I am going to spend far too much money on a car I shouldn't have bought

But enjoy a couple of pics of 'TCC' that I bought from 'ATC' ( I should have known better when I heard him call is wife 'Marlene')

Whitesnake said it best 'Here I go again'
