Periodically I get spurious errors for some functions such as main beam assist, traffic sign recognition etc.
I'm suspecting that perhaps the cameras/sensors may be dirty
I'm aware of the camera above the rear view mirror and the reversing camera
I know it may depend on equipment fitted but are there any others?
Interestingly I've noticed I get the errors in low sun conditions, is that to be expected?

Traffic sign recognition as well as main beam assist sensing camera are located on your windscreen behind your rear view mirror. In versions without a camera sensor location is pretty same but instead of the camera you have a photo sensor measuring amount of light.

I had this a few times last week, called out Audi Assist and the guy said there is a massive software fix coming out at the end of this year for the A6

Interesting but end of the year seems a while away though

Did he give any other details such as other scope of the fix?

Had this from the day I got the car (2 years ago). Issue seems to be caused (in the main) by the software not coping with a short period between starts and parameters being out of sorts. It is not a hardware fault despite dealers suggesting it is dirty sensors

Had this loads, ******* at the dealers always blamed fogging up.. it’s clearly a software fault.

Had it in for a few faults a few weeks ago and it had some upgrades, not seen the fault since - though obviously not driven much.

My car had this quite a lot but now it is only after about 5 minutes driving when cold - which is due to condensation I believe. Annoying but comes back on after about 15 minutes.

I just experienced that as well few times. Good to know that I’m not alone and it’s not the hardware issue.
