Quick question what’s the damage if any to keep driving around with above warning light?

Car had oil change March 2020 literally day before lockdown and next service just after Easter. I haven’t touched the oil since service last year. It did come on January time but reset itself so thought nothing of it. However it’s re appeared Thursday and not having touched the car again till this morning it’s still there. Faulty sensor perhaps? However it’s in at dealers in just over a week so any damage on driving it if the level Is miraculously too high now?

If it has gone up, you need to know why.

Hey Crasher - safe to drive it for a week if it is a fault (not sensor) or Audi Assist it?

    Hi Nemo

I get this every time after a service think it's caused by me doing just short nursery trips. I have to bring it into dealers and they reduce the oil level. I think it's because I don't do long drives there's some excess fuel out something gets returned back into the oil reservoir. So I apparatus change oil every year and get told by dealer to do long runs once a month(which is difficult given covid)

Hi Papereyes - how are you?

This could be the reason I suspect especially with lockdown and short journeys

Good thanks Nemo! It's been a while. I've had the oil issue for the last two services, might ask the dealer to fill it to one litre short than usual as I always get this problem. It does go away sometimes but it's fine to drive the car btw. Think the dealer just lowers the oil each time.

Without actually dip sticking it and physically measuring the height of the oil you have no idea how over full it is, on a 3L V6 TDI it can be leaking injectors and if the level is very high, no it is not safe as the oil can get ingested into the inlet from the breather and then you have runaway.

Rising oil level is a known problem in Audi TDI engines. This happens mainly in cars with low daily mileage and is due to the DPF burnout process not being completed. Unburned diesel fuel enters the engine oil and increases its level.
Sucking off the excess of engine by Audi services is a mistake and is an attempt to solve the problem at the lowest cost. Oil diluted with diesel fuel should be replaced, not its excess removed. This diluted engine oil does not meet the parameters and may simply damage the engine. Period.

Thanks all - oil change all booked in for after Easter already so hopefully this replacement and easing of lockdowns ahead help me give the car a proper run
