OK thanks.....so it a cylinder head off job then ya reckon? And also get the sump off to check for crap.....I have done numerous flushes with wynns engine flush in the past.....so should be pretty clean but won't no for sure

until sump is off.....(Need to confirm with compression test though first?)

Is it worth just reconditioning the head I have or looking for another one?

We take them to a local engineer who cleans, fits guides, laps in new exhaust valves and the old inlets, skims and returns. We USED to only fit genuine heads but these are too expensive now at £1549.

If you cans send me a PM with details it would be appreciated. What is the approximate cost for this? Do you have to send it to them as a bare cylinder head or it ok to send with camshafts, rockers etc.....

Why does the worn exhaust valve guide cause the lumpy idle?

We use a local engineer, there must be a few in your area, typically it comes out around £500 for eight new valves and guide, they tend to want them bare. take care with motor vehicle engineers, they can be grumpy sods. Ours prefers it bare. The reason the guides cause a problem is they wear excessively, I have seen as much as 2.5mm rock, and this causes the valve to not seat correctly and eventually it burns out, the one next to the EGR valve is often the worst.
