    Hi All,

I recently purchased a 2019 Q7 50TDI (3.0 diesel)- first thing I've noticed is a rattle coming from the engine at low revs, up to 2000 rpm...after that it's smooth, before that sounds super loud, bit like a tractor

Just doesn't sound right for a new car with 13k miles...

    Thoughts?

It’s the distribution chain. I guess it would be normal until the temperature of the oil raises.
    Can you make a clip?

I’m experiencing a similar situation. My A4 1.8L TFSI GEN 3 125KW (170HP) CJEB engine makes diesel type rattle sound at 1000-1500rpm in drive upon initial acceleration. The engine only has 30,000km and was serviced according to manual from the get go.

The diesel engine type rattling noise only happened at 90°C in "D" when getting going under slight acceleration but got progressively worse until it was noticeable even when in "P" and revved between 1000 - 1500 rpms and when driving and hitting the gas a little at 2000-2500rpms .

An experienced VW - AUDI mechanic deduced that, although it wasn't leaking oil, a possible cause may have been the Camshaft Bridge/Bracket (images below), since the part seems to have been modified since the inception of the Gen 3 motors, apparently by expanding the oil port (06L 103 144 F - 06L 103 144 H)… his thinking was that the original part’s oil port size may have been starving the camshafts of oil at low rpms, causing the rattling sound.

Although there is significant improvement after the new Cam Bridge/Bracket was installed, the rattling sound still occurs at 90°C in "D" when getting going under slight acceleration at 1000-1500 rpms, as it did when the rattling sound first presented itself (Listen to rattle here: 1.8L TFSI CJEB Rattle Sound.m4a - Google Drive) ...so it can very well progress once again to happening even in "P" at 1000-2000rpms or when driving and hitting the gas a little at 2000-2500rpms😌.

Similar symptoms to these but my mileage was a lot higher...

    Is it back of engine?

I have a 60K 4M 3L TDI in at the moment and the right bank is really noisy at idle but the left bank significantly quieter.

She is getting rid of it just because of the water leak. The car has no online service history apart from the PDI and has done over 60K...

err, well, what I said; she is selling the car because of the water leak as it could be a can of worms. The service record system is now digital and Audi have never serviced it in 60k, that won't do the resale value much good.

This is so strange, why wouldn’t it be serviced during the warranty at the Audi dealer.
What water leakage does it have?
