    Hi,

    Can you help??

I have a strange issue in with my mk5 2.0l diesel, it has an issue starting if its left for approx 6 / 8 hrs, it takes 5 / 6 quite long attempts to start it, its as though the diesel flows back to the tank and takes a while to get back to the engine. When it has been started once, it has no issue starting again unless left for a long period, at work or overnight.

I have recently found out that if left on a slope, this was in a car park, it starts fine!

So last night, i reversed my car on the small wheel ramps I have, approx 300mm high, to test, and it started first time no issues.

Any idea what this could be??? i am baffled.

    Thanks in advance

    Nick

Has the lift pump in the tank been checked?

no i have only checked for any leaks to hoses around the fuel filter, would the lift pump be likely, can this be checked or is it just replace it and see....

You can run it with a suitable diagnostic system and see if it delivers fuel to the filter unit, I have also seen symptoms like yours when someone has been in there and connected the hoses up the wrong way around, yes you Mr RAC and AA breakdown chaps!
