I’m looking to buy a second hand Audi A4 Avant in petrol. I notice some are equipped with the Mild Hybrid system.
which model year was that introduced? When I search the internet the information is not very clear.

Further, should you avoid this system or try to get it? My concern is it could be a pitfall of repair bills, expensive parts and an unnecessary complication?

    thanks

MHEV system first appeared on B9 facelift, so 2020 and onwards.
Haven't hear anything about their reliability yet, but I gues You'll be fine anyways, because B9 facelifts are still very new cars.
As I understand its just a beefier starter motor which allows car to coast with engine off up to 40 seconds or so (correct me if I'm wrong).
So I don't think that there's too much for anything to go wrong there - no complicated electromotors added.

It is called the alternative drive system and operates at 48v. We have not seen any issues yet although at Ł1200 I imagine when it fails, people will not replace the Lithium battery although a failed combined starter/generator at nearly Ł1500 could be annoying but these days rotating electrics are very reliable.

    Thanks guys,

That was also what I thought at first but when researching I see this where the MHEV is mentioned as 2017.
Audi A4 (B9) Avant 2.0 TFSI MHEV 252HP Quattro Technical Specs, Dimensions

i also see they have both 48 volt and 12 Volt MHEV Systems. Not sure how they have decided which are paired to different engines though.

Basically, I a, looking for a second hand 2.0 TFSI Avamt Quattro S Tronic and would like to get the most reliable car possible.

I can’t even see, to find the exact engine code for this car so I can research reliability and whether it has dual port injection to avoid the carbon build-up issue.

    I really appreciate your help!

For me a late EA888 engine without any silly add on “save the planet” ******** is ideal. The EA888 has matured from a talented problem child into a well adjusted grown up and for me, 500cc per cylinder is the optimum format in any engine... plus some assisted induction of course.

Still looking for my next car...
I have noticed that for MY19 the 2.0 TFSI changed badging to 45 TFSI and the BHP fell to 245 from 252. What explains this drop? And, are these engines any different?
Which Model Years were they fitted with dual port injection?

The reclassification of emissions under the new rules meant a power drop for some engines such as the Golf R.
