    Hi all,

So, my 2010 3.0 TDI A6 S-Line LeMans is dying It's recently started coming up with an intermittent "Low Oil Pressure" warning on start-up that changing sensors did nothing to resolve, and with the mileage on it (409,000km - I'm in Ireland) and the age of the car, the thought is that it'd need a new engine which just isn't economical. Annoyingly, for now this is the only symptom of an issue as the car is still driving perfectly (and the warning disappears after a few seconds), but it's due its NCT (our equivalent of the MOT) next month, and won't pass with this warning.

I trust my garage after years of dealing with them, so as a result it's looking like time to change. They have a 2013 Irish spec 3.0 TDI A6 coming in which seems to be fairly standard/basic vs the spec in my own (non-memory seats, no media HDD etc) and the HP is 204 vs the 240ish in mine (though it could be remapped I guess), but the price seems good, it's from another customer of theirs so they know the history, and the mileage is about a third of mine. Hopefully will be looking at this car next week

Option B is a 2014 3.0 TDI A8 with 200,000km on it (roughly 50k more than the A6). Don't know much about this one yet but it looks in decent shape from the pics and the dealer gets good feedback and has offered me a video of the car. Covid restrictions here mean travel is restricted which means I can't just go and look at it, but that aside I'm guessing the running costs and maintenance costs would be noticeably higher than the A6. Against that though it looks to have everything mine does and more, and the price is only a few k more.

So, with the C7 A6, are there specific things to look out for vs the C6? Anyone here faced a similar challenge and what did you end up going for in the end?

    Any thoughts much appreciated!

    Cheers.

If the A7 is fwd and not quattro I would stay clear, it sounds like company car spec and will have the multitronic gearbox, when working is a very nice smooth gearbox, but is prone to issues and wont take a remap.
I believe maintenance cost for the A8 against the A7 or even your current A6 will be very similar.
I would go with the A8 out of your current choices.

My A7 2011 204bhp and multitronic gearbox with 140k miles has been great in terms of gearbox and engine. Having said that I, think you will not like the slower response of the gearbox so test.
Only 2 problems of note have occurred. The first is the front wheel bearing which is obvious due to,the noise it gives. The second which has just occurred is coolant loss probably caused by a leak in the egr cooler deep down in the V of the engine. Other than that the C7s are very reliable. It's all about the previous owner and how well they cared for their car.

    Just a quick update..

Settled on a UK import 2012 A7 with 245BHP, Tiptronic and a LOT of extras - including HUD, Wireless Access Point, Park Assist, Media Jukebox and a tonne of other stuff. Cars like this and the A8 are becoming increasingly rare over here because of the effects of Brexit and NoX charges on the import market. This one only has 75k miles (verified) on it too.

Picking it up this week and can't wait

Congrats! im close to pulling the trigger one one of these too (although BiTDI)

They are an absolute beast of an engine. Are you sure your gearbox is a tiptronic? I believe the 245 is the S Tronic one?
