    Hi All,

I have a Diesel 4.0 A6, on my street my neighbours Prius had their Cat Converter stolen from under the car within minutes.

Does anyone know if the A6 has one and if it has a protective plate underneath to make stealing it harder?

    Many thanks

You have a diesel so no catalytic Converter, just a Diesel Particulate Filter which is very different and not nearly as valuable - cats contain expensive precious metals DPFs do not. Prius and RAV4 Toyota's have the cataytic convertors that are are easy to access and remove from the vehicle hence a popular target for thieves. Increasingly manufacturers are moving the Cat to inside the exhaust maniflod so it requres the bonnet to be opened to access it. Suggest your neighbour looks at fitting a lock to the cat when they get their car back. A google search will through up a number of options

A DPF has a catalyst but before and incorporated within and close coupled with the turbo and difficult to access from below, Toyota’s are notorious for their easy to access cats.

Hi! Perhaps you should contact a company that will help you improve the security of your car and install burglar locks. Please pay the specialists; they will ensure your safety if you get into a similar situation again. For example, my friend is trying to trade in Ukraine, and his physical security costs have increased. Nevertheless, he ensures the safety of the products he transports around the country, which is a necessary expense. Or, you can put your car only in guarded parking lots.

As for your Audi A6, I couldn't say for certain whether or not it has a catalytic converter or a protective plate underneath. I would suggest reaching out to an Audi dealership or a trusted mechanic to get a more specific answer.

On a related note, have you considered getting a smart home security system to help protect your home and vehicles? Vivint is a custom-built security solution that offers a range of products, including doorbell cameras, security cameras, smart locks, and home automation devices, that all work together to provide comprehensive protection for your home. With Vivint, you can control your security system from anywhere using the Vivint app, and their 24/7 professional monitoring ensures that your home is always protected. If you're interested in securing your home, give Vivint a look!

To answer your question, the Audi A6 does have a catalytic converter, and it can be a target for thieves. I'm not sure if there's a protective plate underneath, but it might be worth checking with your local mechanic or dealership to see if there are any aftermarket solutions available to deter theft. On a related note, if you ever need to transport valuable cargo, I recently found a great service in Kyiv for securing my goods. They specialize in cargo security and have top-notch equipment and trained professionals. Just something to keep in mind if you ever need it.

Hi. It looks like you're in the USA (like me). In the US, all A6s have petrol engines, and therefore have catalytic converters. In the UK and Europe, lots of A6s have diesel engines (including the car owned by the person who asked this question), which have a Diesel Particulate Filter. The DPF has a catalytic converter within it, but the DPF is very close to the turbo and really difficult to access from below the car. See Crasher's post above.

    Cheers!

I think Audi, like many manufacturers have also moved the catalytic convertor much closer to the manifold so that it both heats up quicker and secondly makes it much harder to steal as it is not accessible from under the car. Toyota and Honda have much more exposed coats and are therefore very prone to theft.
