I don’t think I have ever done a G40 on a BKP, errors pointing to it are usually bad timing.

Hi, thanks for getting back us. The car is suffering from the long cranking hot start problem. Checked values of coolant sensor, removed starter and cleaned up inside. Cranking 300 plus. New battery and just bought Vcds hex. Ran a scan and got camshaft position sensor. Cleared, went for a drive and got the code again. Removed throttle body today, to gain access to cps plug. I’ve got 5v between outer terminals and 5v on middle terminal. So I think wiring is ok. The car runs fine, all ok. But I have to leave it for a while if it won’t start when up to temp.
    Regards
    Richard

What is the code definition, implausible or no signal?

    Could be a faulty sensor.

Cheers, looks like that at the moment. With the throttle body removed, i can see cps wire going into timing cover albeit in a recess due to the alternator hanger and the oval grommet next to it. I can see 10mm bolt holding sensor under front sprocket, then wire goes downwards in a cutout of the timing cover plastic backplate near cam tensioner, and out through grommet. I will try tomorrow to dislodge grommet, not sure how easy for it to go back into place.
Also, would a delphi euro car parts sensor be ok, or main dealer?
    regards

I think you have to bring the belt sprocket forward to get the G40 out, I have only ever done one as part of a belt change.

    Hi Crasher,

Do you think i could cut old/new plugs off and use old cable as a draw wire ( depends if cable will slide past the side of the grommet ) Maybe tiny bit of silicone spray would help, but not near belt.

alternative route ? through timing belt top cover.

Or just get someone to remove what is needed to do it properly, i think belt may have 50k on it. roughly what would you say labour was on this?

and finally would you go to main dealer to buy cps, because of the hassle to replace if pattern part fails.
    Many Thanks
    Richard

I would only buy it genuine because it has a two year parts and labour warranty and I would only fit it correctly which from memory means removing the plastic back cover.
