I've a strange fault I need to address and hoping someone has had a similar problem or a good starting point.

I changed the wheel bearings on the rear, all discs and pads front to back, rear abs reluctor rings and front sensors

Car has been fine for a month and now I have the yellow abs light on soild and a red flashing brake light sign in large on the dash.

The brakes feel like the abs is kicking in ll the time

    Any help appreciated

    Thanks

Ideally you need to pull the fault code from the system, otherwise a visual inspection of all four wheels and measuring the four sensors may help. Those old front sensors may yet be needed if they were working and especially if swapped for non genuine but it could be anything so a fault code is the way to go

Quite clearly the ABS ECU is detecting a wheel speed signal dropping out so thinking a wheel is locking and reducing pressure to that caliper but as the ABS light is on I would expect the system to now work so first a code read is a must as even if you inadvertently rectified the fault, the warning will not clear. To help determine which wheel speed sensor is dropping out, you will need to observe each wheel speed signal whilst driving using the Measuring Block output with a diagnostic system that can display these. The only problem here is the Bosch ECU used in the cars is a right pain, when you exceed approx 20Kmh, the system drops communications and limits the ease of testing on public roads with becoming a nuisance or danger to other road users and this measurement must be done by an assistant sitting in the back seat, with the location of an 8D diagnostic plug this is easy and why I think it was placed there.

That’s engine, not ABS and VCDS Lite is next to useless.

Full and registered VCDS, you don’t need the up to date HEX-NET cable, you should be able to find an older genuine VCDS cable on eBay where someone has moved up to a HEX-NET. Avoid illegal cables at all costs.
