Hi folks, i bought myself an A3 yesterday (1.8 2002) and noticed that the dipstick was dancing about loosely. Turns out the funnel has broke off and it looks like the top part of the dipstick is also done. I just wondered if this would do the job? As i am in Edinburgh can anyone recommend a garage for future use for jobs that i will be unable to do myself. Many thanks

It is a pain when that happens, if it is the 1.8T AUM engine the new part is revised and strengthened, part number 06D 103 634 E and costs £15.77. Bits of the plastic will have gone into the sump and IF it is a 1.8T it is highly advisable to have the sump and pickup removed and cleaned anyway, many of these engines have died due to sump sludge.

Thanks for replying. It's the bog standard 1.8 non turbo. Is it still worthwhile to drain the sump?

The AGN and APG engines are not prone to clogging their sumps because there is no turbo to bake the oil but it would be nice to know there are no bits of plastic in there and also it can make it a lot easier to get the remains of the old guide out.

Many thanks. I will book it in for an oil change/ engine flush once the new funnel arrives which could be delayed due to the artic conditions here in Edinburgh.
