I have a major electrical fault with my Golf. It first started with both front lights failing at the same time. The side light still works. I then swapped some of the fuses around and this didn't solve it. As I played around with the fuses, the next day the Speed Clock, Computer and Fuel Gage didn't work. What was good was the miles on the Speed Clock didn't increase! Later that night I swapped around the fuse for the Rev Counter and Speed Clock. Now the Speed Clock and Fuel Gages works but the Airbag fault light comes on along with ESP (Traction Control Light) and Immobiliser or locking isn't as it was. Finally when I turn off the engine, the Rev Counter stays at 1000 revs until I re-start it.
Can anyone help? Does this sound like Relay Switches? The engine has been re-mapped but this shouldn't affect it don't think. Any possible solutions to try and solve this?

Firsty things first is to get it onto VAG-COM and perform a cluster test to ensure all is ok..

From there check all faults codes to see if anything else has been logged..

    Thanks

When you say you swapped fuses around, I hope you mean you replaced one fuse with another of the same value, ie a 20A fuse for another 20A fuse?
If not and you just swapped say a 5A and a 20A over then it is a good bet you've probably blown the lower value fuse.
your headlights will be on a fuse of a much higher current rating than the speedo/rev counter most of which are electronic and low power in comparison.
The best thing to do is remove all of the fuses, test them all and throw away the duff ones.
Replace the fuses in the correct fuseway with a fuse you know is good and of the correct value for the circuit into which it is being connected.
Any fault on the circuits will then result in those particular fuses blowing and then you will know on which circuits a fault exists and go from there.
    Hope this helps
