Hi all and Happy New Year
I am hoping that someone will be able to help me with a problem that I have with my sons SEAT Leon II 2010 1.6 tdi ecomotive VW/Audi CAYC engine.

A couple of weeks ago the car cut out for no apparent reason but started again after switching ignition off for a few seconds. The next day it did the same and started again after same procedure. The next day it did it again, started again but would only run in limp mode.

Now it will not start at all, although now and again it will fire up, run really rough for a few seconds and cut out.

The strange thing is that the management light is only showing during the few seconds of rough running.

I ran a diagnostic even though there was no management lights on and it came up with P228D00 – FUEL METERING VALVE, CONTROL VARIATION – PRESSURE TOO HIGH N- PERMANENT. I cleared the fault and it hasn’t shown itself since which makes me think that it could be an old one.

I run diagnostic and it only comes up with 001D38 – Unknown fault code. I don’t have access to a proper VCDS unfortunately.

Other than that the management lights do not light.

    Anybody got any ideas please?

    Much appreciated

Has it had a fuel filter recently? You need a proper VAG specific code read.

    Hi, thanks for your reply.
Yes It had one last January and I have just replaced it again to eliminate it from this problem.
I know I need a proper VAG diag but I dont have access to one here (I am in France). The main ******** and garages here are worse than in the UK!!! Are they expensive to buy?
    Thanks again

" Now it will not start at all, although now and again it will fire up, run really rough for a few seconds and cut out. "

Try blanking off the EGR at the front of the engine where access is easy & see if it will start.
The engine will run in lip mode blanked off, but it might point you in the right direction.

EGR sticking open will stifle the engine from running.

If you don't have a diagnostic system, how did you bleed the fuel system for 2 minutes after the new fuel filter?

    Thanks again
I do have a diagnostic but it isnt a proper VAG one. Its one of these Delphi multi make things.
If I go in via VW golf with CAYC engine it lets me operate components. Thats how I bled it.
Could do with a VAG as I have several VW/Audi/SEAT vehicles.
    Cheers

Good, I was concerned you had not bled it and just fired it up the way we all used to.

VCDS is the ideal system for DIY right up to professional specilsist use, the only system that can do more is the dealers ODIS which is appallingly slow, clunky and difficult to get access to. Only buy VCDS direct from Ross-Tech: Home or from one of their appointed UK distributors, beware of illegal dongles.
