    Hi,

My mom has an old Audi A6 Avant 2.6 quattro 1995.

There is problem with the central locking. There is no alarm in the car and has never been. (Buyed new many years ago). The last year you can hear to "vacuum pump" for the locking system run for 10 seconds extra every time you use the key to lock and unlock the car from outside with key. That's not really a problem, it works, but a bit strange.

Now latest weeks a new fault has come, and its not good. You unlock the car with key from driving door (or other doors). The car unlock all doors as it should, but when you turn on key to start engine all doors lock! (It locks in key position three, "engine start") It is not possible to open the door from inside now. Normally in cars you can always open with inner handle and the door unlock, second time you "open" with handle door open. Not even this works. Its cold outside now (Sweden about -5 to -10 celcius). We have parked the car inside garage with heating because i think maybe something has frozen inside door. The problem is still there. Only way to come out of the car is to turn of engine, open window and unlock with key from outside, and use the outside handle to open door.

It´s and old car. Original central locking system. No alarm. "Regular key" with no remote function.

Any ideas? Some faulty switch in a door? We have not asked any car repair man yet.

Your post is better off if posted in the C4 forum as this the place with owners of cars of this era.

It does have very basic diagnostic abilities so I would start with a code read but it will need to be using a system that can access "address 35 central locking" not the later address 46 central convivence system.
