    Hi,

Over the last weeks not using the car, the alarm went off. Flat Battery.....

The battery being some 6mths old from Halfords. So disconnected battery and placed on charge for 24hrs.

Tried starting 24hrs later and there's an error 'ESP fault' and the engine will not start. Telling me the ignition is on and to press the clutch pedal, which I have and still tells me to do so.

Placed the battery on charge for a further 24hrs.

Any tips of the what the fault maybe to allow to start engine.

    thanks

The ESP fault will clear when you get the car started and take it for a spin.

My 2010 A6 sometimes does not recognise the clutch pedal if you depress it too quickly.

The switch is just way to groung the signal from the Engine control unit.

It has only 2 wires, pin 2 from the ECU and pin 3 which is the earth wire (ground).

Check that the switch is still fitted on the pedal box correctly and link the 2 wires temporarly to see if the car starts (keep the car out of gear or press the clutch pedal to prevent moving forward uncontrolled)

If it does then the switch is bad, if not then the wiring has to be checked.

    Thanks,

Will try if I can get it to start. Currently when trying theres nothing/life, just as the clutch is not depressed.

    So could be the switch/wiring.

I have had a spate of modern brand new EFB and AGM batteries fail completely over the last few months and they will not recover. The last was a Yuasa 5000 series which is supposed to be high end, they do not like going completely flat, the test they are going through now is unprecedented.

If your battery is not the problem, the switch is the one that is pushed on when the pedal is pressed.

The other one on the pedal which releases when pressed on is the clutch position switch (4 wires) and not for the start circuit so do not link any wires on this switch.

    thanks,

Read that if battery is below 12v it can through up errors as it was 11.7v after 24hr charge.
Today after a further 24hr charge, started ok with no errors.

A friend loaned me a ELM27, but it seems it dont like iPhones as it will not connect although the iphone see's it just wont connect via wifi or bluetooth.
