You could probably sort the CarPlay related issue by turning CarPlay off for the Golf on yoiur phone (in settings/general/carplay) so it does not automatically connect to CarPlay everytime you get in the car

What if you want to listen to your music while using the VW navigation? Worked fine in my MK 7.5! I shouldn't need to turn off CarPlay. Im sure it did work as expected when I first used it. The digital system is extremely buggy and really needs sorting out. My last GTI needed the odd soft boot but that was it.

In tht case agree with you, hadn't appreciated you were using CarPlay for Audio. As is well documented here and elsewhere the software in the golf is very buggy and by rights the car should not have been launched until it was fixed, but VW got themselves into a situation where they had no choice but to launch it. I expect that the various lockdowns around the world are also having an impact on getting the software fixed and properly tested before it is released to the market.Until car manudfacturers know how to properly test software I thoink the liklihood of any sorts of autonomous vehicles are a very long way off (thak goodness!). Even Tesla is now having to recall vehicles becaue of issues which can't be fixed by thier much heralded OTA updates

    Failure Sequence 1
    · Loud Electrical Click from the Centre Speaker
    · "Error: Emergency Call. Please visit workshop error” on Instrument Cluster
    · SOS Light goes off on roof
    · Route guidance is not active message on Instrument Cluster
    · Navigation is currently unavailable message on Instrument Cluster
    · Seems to work again from next day (or hours later after leaving car), but cannot find a way to reset (like second sequence below) (So there is also no access to infotainment as it is stuck on "Loading Settings")

    Failure Sequence 2
    · Loud Electrical Click from the Centre Speaker
    · SOS is now active message on Instrument Cluster
    · SOS Light goes off on roof
    · Route guidance is not active message on Instrument Cluster
    · Navigation is currently unavailable message on Instrument Cluster
    · SOS Light back on on roof
    · To get the Navigation to work again on the Instrument Cluster you need to switch Engine off and wait a while or soft reset the infotainment by holding down the power button

These then result in other issues with the car as well as a lack of access to navigation and sometimes the whole infotainment . The car seems to reset itself to being in Europe. E.g. slowing the car to 44mph on a motorway which I believe is 70kmph and activating undertaking prevention and slowing the car when overtaking as it believes the car is now right hand drive.
Hey m4tty, did you ever get these issues resolved? What did you mean by the car I rejected and the replacement? Did they give you another car? Thanks

No not resolved. Just picked it up this afternoon after being at the dealer for 2 weeks for software updates and the SOS unit replaced. They claimed it was fixed and tested, but same issue occurred.
(Slighty different version of Sequence 1. Instead of Route Guidance is not active appearing in the Navigation display on the instrument cluster after failure, both dials changed to completely different items being displayed. (Was Directions & Speed). Changed to Temperatures and Distances. Navigation was not a checked option and had to be added in again. So looks like the unit does a reset, but can't get back to it's previous state. Also got an email & Notification as soon as it happened saying Services were deactivated in your vehicle)

This is my 2nd Golf 8 with the same issue. I rejected the first one (picked up in June) and it was replaced with a new one (in December). Think I will be rejecting this one for a refund, and go to a different manufacturer. If it was capable of over the air updates I might wait, but can't keep going to the dealer in the hope the latest fix might resolve. It is a great car to drive except the connectivity electronics....

Sorry to hear this, mine goes in to the dealer on Thursday. I also really love the car but I won't be able to live with these constant issues. The A-Class maybe worth a look if you get your money back. Good luck.

Hi people, I’m new on this site😀 I’ve had my mk8 since July last year. I had problems with the lane keep assist and front collision sensors going off randomly every few seconds when driving, the constant ting ting was doing my head in. The courtesy lights in the back we’re going on and off like a strobe light randomly too. Alexa keeps crashing, in fact mostly doesn’t work. Voice control not working when you press the button but works when you say Hello Volkswagen.
First VW dealer, after damaging the bumper twice (another story) couldn’t find anything wrong with the car at all, I lost all faith in them so took it to another branch who after two days told me the steering wheel would have to be changed( redesign on the electronics), software to be updated and new courtesy lights to be fitted. All now done and, touch wood, everything is working a treat except Alexa which still crashes. Guys at the second branch of VW exceptional.

Forgot to mention that the eSim is always loosing connection with the VW servers but always reconnects after a couple of days. I emailed the technical centre and got a reply saying that they were working on things their end, miraculously it worked straight away after that but has since disconnected and reconnected again. The whole car is too buggy, I fact my wife has the Aclass 250e, far far superior but then you are paying for it.
