Synthetic mineral fluid is almost clear with a yellowish tint, the original is green. It took me a full litre of fluid to get my car to work today, a journey of 8 minutes. I can’t remember ever seeing a PS fluid leak like it even on a Golf 2 with a corroded rack pipe, I could follow the trail I left all the way home and I am not joking!

PS pump is making some very loud noises now! It's on its last legs so it's booked in at the garage for next week

My Octavia uses the same rack as your Bora, a few months ago it decided to spit out its fluid and I found the actual rack gear (we really should call the unit the "steering gear") was rusty due to water getting in, a fairly common problem due to the plastic boots used. I did not want a cheap rattle can black recon rack and a genuine exchange steering gear is £880 so I ordered a genuine Bosch ZF Lenkrad exchange unit and when it arrived it was actually brand new not recon and of the revised spec used on the very last PQ34 right hand drive platform cars, it cost me £400 trade minus VAT (I am VAT registered) and I was chuffed. Due to this stupid bug I was overloaded with work and only found time to fit it a few weeks ago and didn't start the engine until yesterday. After the system had bled itself I wound it to the right lock and it kept going itself all the way to the stop, so I would it fully left and it did the same but then stuck hard and would not move! I turned the engine off and wound it fully right lock again and started the engine, the steering then wound itself fully hard left lock and I could not stop it! Bosch technical agree it must be faulty but that it can even do this is frightening, imagine doing 70mph and the car suddenly throws full left lock, lethal... I am ****** off to say the least as it is a big job changing it with a pile of expensive stretch bolts... not impressed Bosch.

Wow that isn't good. I usually go for Bosch parts as they have a good reputation and have never had an issue so far
