The car (diesel Passat) is spot on. The MOT & service Stamps seem to tie up but the driver's seat is increasingly looking worn. More worn than the other seats and for similar leather VW's of its age (6yrs).

So it's either had a heavy driver or it's been rep'ing for the first few years then disguised etc.

For piece of mind- is it possible to check on a VW ecu for the hidden real mileage?

On certain EDC16 and 17 ECU’s, connected to VCDS sometimes the value is there but not very often in my experience. When I have looked for it to validate the odometer I have seen dozens of cars where it does not match.

I remember going into the waiting room (when we were allowed to have people inside) a few years ago and telling a young woman that her newly purchased A3 had done 200k miles instead of 80k. Old style mechanical odometers were difficult and time consuming to alter and often an experienced eye could tell, these days some nasty piece of work with a lap top can wipe mileage off clocks in seconds. The coming prospect of unlocking a cars already fitted options with a purchase over tinterweb makes me laugh, there will be software cracks available on eBay before the systems can be fully run out.
