I had to put a new battery in my 2001 A4 1.8T quattro. I knew the radio would show "safe" when I powered it up after replacing the battery. I have the code and the procedure for unlocking the radio. The procedure did not work.

I called the Audi dealer where I bought the car and their response was "sometimes the software gets screwed up when you disconnect the battery". My only option they said was to buy a new radio. Great option!!!!

Does anyone have any experience with this problem???

suspect your car may have had a new radio already and the code you are trying to enter is wrong.---you need to contact your dealer ,quoting your chassis number+ the radio AUZ number found on the side of the set. They can then obtain the correct code from the Audi database,--There should be no charge for this--BUT some dealers try to charge!!!

P.S. If you enter the code incorrectly 3 times ,it will lock out and need to be left with radio turned on and key in ignition for approx 2 hours
The AUZ No can also normally be found in MVB 81if you have access to Vag Com or alike

Thanks for the replys. I'll try the radio on for up to 2 hrs and see if that works. Right now my instructions say to press P-SCAN and RBDS at the same time until the number 1000 appears on the radio. Right now when I press those keys, the number 1000 never appears no matter how long I press them.
