With the engine running, disconnect the vacuum pipe to the fuel pressure regulator, be careful though as fuel may come out if it is what I suspect.

I disconnected the pipe with the engine running and had it like that for about 12 minutes. There came no fuel and the little pipe from the regulator felt dry.

Too bad it didn't leak fuel, it would have been such easy thing to replace to get the car back in order.

Start the engine, go into basic settings 04 and into group 099 and see how it runs and drives plus see if you can get a Co test.

It ran ok at first, but after parking and going to the store for 10 minutes it started
to jerk/jump/hesitate a few times on the way back and there came a popping sound as well.

While on idle and driving. Engine - Basic Settings 4 - Group 99.

The bits were changing while driving and on idle.

I'll look around if I can get a CO test somewhere.

The test I mentioned before was done on 17 Dec.
    CO-/K: 2,2%
    HC: 999 ppm
    CO: High idle: 6,2%
    Lambda: High idle: 0,84

If that value in Zone 2 is corrcet the engine is a touch hot, that is the coolant temperature as the ECU sees it... I have emailed you some info.

Thanks for the mail, I'll have a read and see if I understand any

I might go for a drive tomorrow and check the values again. It's been snowing heavily here and will probably continue, so I'll see how it looks tomorrow.

Recently, a mechanic took a quick look at the car and the error codes. He said the exhaust manifold has gotten white from heat.
He thinks the catalytic converter is clogged and has caused that heat.
Would that theory fit with the coolant temperature being high and the other symptoms of the car?

He also said there could be a problem with the lambda sensor.

Cat failure is very rare, we replace very few... probably only a dozen in 20 years, whereas other garages replace that many a month. My immediate concern is that high engine temp reading, doesn’t make sense.

I dug out my car today after some heavy snowing and drove it for 15 minutes and had it on idle also. Temp meter showed a steady 90.

First I used the Xtool VAG401 while the car was getting up in temperature and the temp showed 130 and rising.

Then I connected my old laptop, the battery lasted long enough to get a few readings with VCDS Lite.
Since I don't have the registered version (used a friends laptop before) I couldn't get to 04 Basic Setting - Group 99.
I used Measuring Block - Group 01 instead which also shows the coolant temperature.

    768 /min
    87 C
    0.64 V
    10000010

    768 /min
    93 C
    0.74 V
    10001010

    1760 /min
    93 C
    0.88 V
    10011010

The highest it got to was 98 C.

I then connected Xtool VAG401 again and it showed (Basic Settings - Group 99)

    800 /min
    148.00 DegC
    0.800 V
    10001010

At first I was thinking maybe Xtool VAG401 showed the temperature in Fahrenheit, but 148 F is about 64 C.
So it can't be that either.

I can only guess that the Xtool shows wrong temperature for some reason. Or maybe it is some setting which I
    haven't found yet.

Anyway, in Basic Settings Group 99 in status of Lambda, the first bit to the left show 1 often.
From what I can find it means "Fault recorded in memory during diagnosis; interrogate fault memory"
Is that a sign that the Lambda is faulty?

What is the fault stored? Did you get the info I sent you?

Yes, I got the info, thanks! I've been looking through it, lots of usefuel things. I can't say I understand everything though haha.

It was in one of the files I read about the bits in basic settings - group 99 - zone 4.

It said zone 4 is the operating status of lambda control and if the first bit to the left is a "1" then it signifies:

    Fault recorded in memory during
    diagnosis; interrogate fault
    memory =>Page 01-10.

And it often shows a "1" there, not all the time though. The bits in zone 4 change quite often.

I see now, that bit just indicate that there has been a fault code recorded. And I do have fault codes concerning Lambda.
I thought first it meant the Lamda wasn't working.

The fault codes I have stored are
00537 - Lambda (Oxygen Sensor) Regulation: Lower Limit
00525 - Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor (G39): Implausible Signal
