    Hi all,

I am a total newb to VCDS or similar. I started by buying a very cheap USB KKL 409.1 interface with the hope of being able to use it on both my 06 Polo and my 01 T4. My main interest was looking up fault codes and trying to get the remote fobs to work. But my cheap interface seems unable to be seen by VCDS or VCDS Lite and I'm looking for an affordable alternative solution. Just knowing what I'm going to buy works would be a start as it's hard to tell which interface is compatible with which software.

Does anyone have any recommendations? Again this is a hobby basic maintenance thing, so I don't want to go bonkers.

Thanks for any pointers, Cheers, Jamie.

i have an old cable that worked with an old vcds 15.7.0.2
was reading codes and such but Measuring blocks were greyed out

bought a new set this year, hoping to be able to use Measuring Blocks
still greyed out and also i am getting : New feature! Extended UDS fault detail is only supported by current gen. interfaces

cable is hex v2 with 21.3 vcds (so they say)

my car is an audi a6 2013

is it safe to say that the cable i have is bad/fake ?

to be able to read measuring blocks, what cable do i need to have?

    thanks for your time

Looking at that picture I would say that is a clone/pirate/fake copy of the official interface which may be why some things will work and others not

You could try asking @Uwe@Ross-Tech to confirm this

    Yep. That's what we call a "Faux-V2". A clone/pirate HEX+CAN interface wearing a HEX-V2 dress.

As Uwe has confirmed this is a clone/copy the problem you have is you do not 100% know what it is, the quality of components and more important what it could do to your car...

The biggest loss is you will get non off the excellent Ross-Tech support and from personal experience it is excellent plus besides their own forum a lot of other enthusiast sites do not offer any support for these types of interfaces.
