    Hi all,

Looking for some help, I have just replaced the timing belt and water pump on a 56 plate 1.9 Tdi Jetta, Locked cam and bottom end off with timing tools, rotated by hand a few times, lock off tools fitted back in perfectly.

So I put it all back together and got inside the car expecting it to start right up and it just keeps turning over and wont fire up. Any ideas? I'm struggling to think whats going on, I've turned it over again a few times by hand and the tools still fit in properly.

    Thanks

Fuel filter assembly stayed connected only moved it to the side, crank speed sensor OK, really struggling to find an issue I'm starting to wonder if the timing could be off but I don't really see how if its lining up with the tools.

Do you have VCDS or similar to watch readings as it cranks?

I can probably borrow VCDS off a friend tomorrow if I can't get it going, luckily we don't need the car on the road immediately as we have other vehicles but I'm totally confused whats happened I have a haynes manual here and everything looks correct, I have noticed there are two types of crank locking tools for these engines and started to wonder if I've used the right one but I have both tools and the other one doesn't line up with the mark on the bottom pulley.

Something like this: Please Help A3 2.0tdi bkd stalled won’t start

Crank speed in measuring blocks to see if it is non-zero and IIRC around 3000 to get the engine to start. There are other posts on that and I'm just (mis-?)quoting others .
