I bought the car last year and am delighted with it apart from the fact that it is slowly losing coolant from the water pump housing. Luckily the car came with a warranty so I took it to my local independent VW specialist who took the front off and fitted a new water pump/ seals etc but the leak has not been fixed. All parts came from TPS and the garage has an excellent reputation so I strongly suspect that this is a known issue on this model but so far Audi are not owning up to anything. If any member has any advice or words of wisdom for me I would be delighted to hear from them!

You say it's still leaking but is it the pump? or is it in the general area of the pump?
I ask because some time back on an Audi V6 I had, a leak developed that took 6 months to pin down, it turned out to be a split ABS (plastic) non return valve that controlled coolant flow to the EGR valve cooling system. Located between the 2 inlet manifolds of the V-Six it was hard to locate/pin down because the Audi garage had to remove the inlet manifold to get to it. It leaked and flowed to the front and down the front casing appearing near the water pump and then soaking the sound proof mat at the engine base.

When the engine was running it look like the water pump was spraying but it actually was flicking off the water running onto the front bearing...

    all the best...

    edit:

At this site, is a picture of the valve, it's not your car or mine but it's the part that failed for me between the V inlets.
Something to do with cooling the ERG valve using coolant system.

Thank you for your helpful reply. I realise how difficult it is to pinpoint leaks. The garage that I took it to were confident that the leak was coming from the waterpump housing because they could see a pink antifreeze residue tracking from the leak. My suspicion now is that it could be the plastic waterpump housing which has warped due to age. I believe that the original housing might have been not up to the job and that Audi fixed quite a lot under warranty. I don't think that Audi have ever owned up to this issue but I was told that the waterpump housing had a new part part number in 2019..........
I have booked the car into the local main dealer next week and see what they have to say about it. Cheers.

Well done noscream you were right on the money. I have just come back from the main dealer. They used an endoscope to see that the leak was coming from the coolant shut off valve. I don't expect that the parts will come to a lot but I understand that it is quite a substantial strip down to fix it since the inlet manifild has to come off........... At main dealer prices that comes to about £1500!

I'm happy its helped you, the part is like a £10, labour is like 6-7hrs @ £160 plus all the other things they will replace getting to it (like gaskets, antifreeze etc).
Generally the 3.0 is a solid engine but modern cars have so much compliance, the pipe maze for water, oil, gases and electrics has made a very complicated beast.

I don't know how old your car is but I do recommend taking Audi extended warranty when the original one runs out, it's about £400-500 pa depending on excess.
Some job costs are eye popping.

I have the same issue with my 2016 3.L TDI quattro. Initial thoughts were water pump but following investigation that was fine. Can i ask, was it as expected around the £1500 total bill?
