    Hello,

I've got a N reg A4 1.8 petrol, and i need some advice on the brakes.

About 7 out of 10 times when i start the engine the brake warning light flash's and beeps for several seconds. The brake fluid level is fine (just below the full line), and i took it to a garage for a full brake check and they said the pads and discs etc were all fine, in fact almost new. (though im slightly sceptical if they actually checked anything as they didn't even take the wheels off!!!). And i asked them about the brake warning light and their response was 'i don't really know what that could be'. In fact it came on when i started the car to leave the garage!

The car seems to brake fine, there is no sqeeling noises or anything when i brake, the car doesn't pull to one side or anything.

Does anyone have any idea what the problem is likely to be? I really need to get it sorted, i figure a warning light for the brakes can't be a good thing!

    Thanks in advance
    Matt

    Hi

Could be a faulty break wear sensor giving the ecu a reading that the break pads are worn down

There is another thread on this somewhere.

Problem was sol veed with new battery. Sub 100% charge was triggering the fault.

Had the problem myself. Brakes were 100%. Seems to be fine now.

You may also want to checkout the ABS sensor as they can get coverd in brake dust if pads have just beed changed.
