    Hi All,

I am haveing a starting problem with my Audi TT Mk1 225bhp APX engine code 2000year.

Car ran spot on for the last few months, came out last weekend turns over as normal just not firing into live.

I have lent my Vagcom out so rang the RAC they came out, bloke said there is no sound from the fuel pump, jacked the car up and when turning the engine over knocked the bottom of the fuel tank with hammer.
He then stood up and said 'The fuel pump is not working'
He then plugged the RAC diagnostic kit in and came back with the fault code:

DTC 16706 Engine speed sensor input circuit no signal ('There is no engine RPM signal in Live data when turning the engine over, I would therefore say the Engine speed sensor (crankshaft sensor) is faulty.

I have now replaced the Crankshaft sensor, turned the engine over still not starting and no sound from the fuel pump, I have now replaced the fuel pump. Still the same situation the engine does not start and no sound from the fuel pump.

I have checked the fuel pump 20amp fuse and this is Good, I have also felt a 'Click' from the fuel pump relay (number 167)

Any one got any ideas please, is the car fitted with a crash inertia switch that could be causing this none start??

    All ideas greatly received thanks

The crash inertia response is built into the air bag system. Can I just check with you that there is communications with the engine ECU? Ones powers are diminished by shingles but at the moment no one gives a ****.

OUCH Shingles and when children get Chickenpox all adults want to do is play dot to dot!!

OK thanks for the info regarding the crash inertia.

The RAC bloke did moan it took ages to obtain a response from the engine module, I have arranged for my Vagcom to be returned in the next few days I will then complete a full vehicle scan myself and post the findings on here to see what can be done

    Thanks

yes, it hits me when I am stressed and run down, I must have picked up a stomach bug (how I don't know with all the hand wipes I use) and with life as it is, shingles hit me but I have to keep going... doing a Fabia cam belt at the moment.

With VCDS I would expect easy comms with the engine ECU, ignition on and a good battery.

If you say the fuel pump relay is operating OK, it can then only be the wiring to the fuel pump or the pump itself.

You will have to trace the wiring back to the ECU, there is a plug on the box which can get corroded internally.

Hi Crasher many thanks for the quick reply, I take it you are referring to the engine ECU? where is it situated?

    Thanks
