    Hi Everyone,

After a recent trip to santa pod my golf (2003 gt tdi 150) has developed a knocking noise and im just wondering if any one can help me solve the problem? when i accelerate in 2nd gear and the engine lifts theres is a slight knocking noise. kind of a knock knock at about 3000rpm. the knock also occurs when going quickly round corners. it seems to be coming from the front near side wheel. A mechanic friend has checked the CV's, and said there fine, its not the gear box because it also happens when the clutch is in and i go over a bump. he changed the anti-roll bar bushes on saturday but its still there. do you think it could be the lower arm bushes?

sorry to babble on but i thought the more info the better, any help would be greatly appreciated as its driving me mad!

    thanks

    Kev

sorry but this is a process of elimination so yes do change the lower arms -normally the back bush of the arm- but a good mechanic would have spotted this first .

You realise that they will make the ride a little harsher?

OEM bushes are rubber for a reason

I'd look at the centre rear engine mount (or dog-bone) first before suspecting the lower arm bushes.

The lower arm bushes themselves won't usually knock but cause wayward handling.

If the knock is on gear changes suspect the dog-bone.

If the knock is on general driving suspect the inner anti-roll bar bushes or strut top mount bushes / bearings.

....Also the powerflex items (for the flat bush, which is the one that wears) comes in two halves and I've seen a fair few come out of the lower arms.

You'd be better off going for Leon Cupra or Audi TT bushes. They are solid rubber unlike the voided Golf ones. Only about £14 per side as well, fitted them to my Golf when I had it and it really tightened up the front end.

Could be a broken centre exhuast mount or broken radiator mounts, both very common faults.

    Had them both myself.

i have drove over 15k in a year very harshly so i know i need to replace all bushes and links because the car feels like it is loose not how it used to feel like.
i will be taking pics of the jobs in question so as to help other members.
may i also add that i am the most picky or fussy person when it comes to my beautiful golf.
ie no expence spared on parts as i am a believer of look after what you have and the return is priceless.
