Hi everyone, first message have been lurking round for a while reading all the problems which have helped me fix a few myself . I have had a 1.6 s golf for 2 months now & had the idling problem so had the throttle body cleaned out & it seemed ok for a few weeks but now the problem has come back & has stalled on one or 2 occasions when I stop at traffic lights. Any ideas what else it could be? Could it be the MAF or is that different symptoms completely? Any help is much appreciated. Thanks in advance

The car only idles erratically then the engine has warmed up, worth replacing temperature sensor?

Is the engine code AKL,if so 12233 adaption channel 13 and boost the idle. With this system any extra load from the engine can cause idle stalling issues ie power steering on full lock at idle or extra load on the alternator.I simple way to test this is when you think the idle is irratic turn the heated rear window on as this will send a message to the engine control unit to boost the idle to compensate for extra load, the adaption i have given you is basically giving the ecu the same command but all the time. The idle wont go to high but will stabilise under all circumstances. If its not akl then post some fault codes

Hi, thanks for the reply, the engine code is AZD. I'm not sure if it has any fault codes, would I have to go 2 VW to find out?

After cleaning the throttle body i didnt do the adaption procedure that i read somewhere using vagcom. DO you think this may be the cause of the problem?

I found the following fault code

17559 - Long Term Fuel Trim Additive Air; Bank 1; Range 1: System too Lean

Any ideas what this means or is causing it? Thanks again

Have you done the adaptations yet?

Engine electronics - (17559) Mixture adaptation range 1 Lean limit too low

    Possible reasons for code

    - Heated Oxygen sensor behind cat B1 S2
    - G39 - Heated Oxygen sensor before cat B1 S1
    - G6 - Fuel pump, low pressure/delivery
    - N18 Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve, sticking
    - N30 - Cylinder 1 injector
    - N31 - Cylinder 2 injector
    - N32 - Cylinder 3 injector
    - N33 - Cylinder 4 injector
    - EVAP canister system leaking
    - Injection quantity and proper sealing of injectors
    - Leak in intake system
    - Leak in exhaust system before catalytic converter

Go into adaptation 10, group 00, read and save. This will clear any learnt values that may be causing problems.
