    Hello all

Does anyone know if it’s possible to retrofit the convenience key?

I find it astonishing that a high end car like the Q7 doesn’t have it as standard, especially on an SLine and coming from a Range Rover we have got quite used to just having the key in our pocket / wife’s bag to open and lock the car.

Would Audi do it? Anyone with experience hugely appreciated.

    Thanks
    James

Mate, look on the kufatec site, they have a kit for this and the retrofit is pretty easy. I think it’s around 500euros.

Thanks for this. Appreciated. Although looking at the instructions im a bit nervous of taking off door trim and lining etc on a 1 week old car.

Any idea how much Audi will charge me for such a job?

James, there is more to this

Your Convenience Module in your car may need replacing with a "high" version which supports Keyless (Kessy) Entry - but if you have dynamic sweeping indicators on your rear lights, you should be ok.

You need to add wiring into the doors and sensors in the door handles (to pick up your hand etc when you grab handle etc) and a couple of other sensors in the dash and you need to do coding etc aswell to enable it all

Its possible but I doubt an audi dealer is going to offer to do it.

Its not just a straight swap of a single box and "voila" unfortunately

I had advanced key on my previous Audi, but don't have it on the Q7. It took us a couple of weeks to get used to using the remote, but we don't miss it much now and I guess the car is safer too.
In any case I think Andy on here will be able to help you with the retrofit.

    Lol, Andy is very quick!

    Thanks for the input guys.

I thought KESSY was more secure than the standard key? Does Audi KESSY have the motion sensor?

Perhaps it’s not worth it and I will get used to it. Just with little ones at the moment being carried my wife is finding it a challenge fumbling around in her bag for a key whereas before we just pulled the door handle and it opened.

All just to make it easier to nick with a repeater attack... Each to their own. My old car had keyless entry, yes it was convenient. I quite like not having it now. Normal key & also tracker fob.

Definitely yes. The standard key has an incredible feature: You have to press it to open your car, and it's not possible to steal the radio signal of the key, and with this your car in the same time.

In my humble opinion, this is the most important security bug ever, which was interpreted as a feature in the keyless entry cars.
