Hi, I've recently bought a 2009 Phaeton with a 3.0 TDi engine. Bought it privately, everything checked out, no issues what so ever. Last week, upon starting the car from cold it began to misfire / rough idle for approximately 20 seconds every moening. Once the 20 seconds are passed, it settles down and drives without any issues. If I start it when it is warm, no issues here. If I leave for the engine to cool down completely, it'll rough idle again, until I press the gas pedal to around 2k RPM for 10 seconds, then it settles.

I've connected Carly (always worked like a charm on all Audis and VWs), but no codes regarding the engine. Also, 2 days ago the engine light came on. No limp mode. No loss of power. Drives and pulls without issues.

Any ideas before I take it to a specialist? I've read on other forums from someone with similar issue and it was a few temp sensors on the coolant / fuel.

If the light is on a code is at home so Carly is missing a non OBDII code, for anything below the dealer system ODIS, nothing comes close to VCDS, everting else is a cut price sham.

Managed to get someone to check the car properly and it threw P0101. We erased it to see if it comes back and it did come back along with an engine light as usual. I somewhat have an indication as to the fault, e.g.vacuum leak, MAF, PCV, etc. But don't even know where to start...

I would start with an Air Mass Meter. ONLY buy this genuine from a VW dealer or TPS, not even if it says Bosch on the box. If it is the one I think it is, part number 059 906 461 K then these are £209.68

The issue was the MAF. After replacing the MAF there were no issues what so ever.
