    Hi folks,

New to the forum, so please accept my apology if this has already been answered but I failed to find a problem similar to mine with the fault codes. Looking for some advice please. I have a 2003 A3 1.9 TDi Quattro sport 8L (!996-2003). A few weeks back, whilst my wife was driving the car, it started misfiring/juddering and the ESP light came on. She switched it off and then back on and the problem went away. this happened on another occasion again but disappeared. Yesterday whilst i was driving the vehicle the same happened but this time the problem persisted. I had the AA come out and they did a diagnostic with their fault reader. Below is their diagnostic taken directly from their email to me:

"Engine control 1 - 72P / Diesel EDC 15P469B - Valve for unit injector, cyl. 2. Error Message : Circuit defective.412E - Combustion failure cylinder 2. Error Message : detected.Miss fire from enginePatrol found codes for cylinder 2 Suspect injector issue"

I was wondering if anyone could kindly suggest what the best approach would be? I couldn't find anything with these codes so wondered if the AA code reader wasn't best suited to this older model car? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks all in advance.

Probably a fault with the in head injector harness which should be replaced first as the injectors on this engine tend to be reliable.

Thanks for reply Crasher, I've ordered the harness from main dealer at approx £85, I've seen a cheaper option on eBay but someone on the forum advised to stay away! It arrive Thursday and so will update once I've fitted. May I ask, if it is the harness, once I replace it, will i need the codes resetting? thanks in advance.

If the harness is the problem the issue will go away BUT the code will stay until it is cleared.

Thanks again Crasher! which if any code reader/reset machine would you buy? A local garage has said £30 to reset the code. I'm thinking I'd buy a machine if theres not much difference in price. Seen a few on amazon but wasn't sure what they're like really. Thank you

The only one to trust and make good use of is VCDS and I have recently had to update my interface at £575 odd, there is no useful or sensible alternative.

Blimey, thats some serious money! Don't think the car is worth much more than that haha.

The injector harness arrived today and I fitted it this evening, the seems to be working fine again! drove about 20 miles and all seems lovely for now. Thank you for taking your time and giving me the advice, it is really appreciated. I managed to swap it over in approximately an hour after watching a video on how to remove it on youtube, happy days!

    Thanks again.

It is a tool that will work on any suitable VAG product and last you for years.
