As above, trying to get a few more years out of my 2003 3.0 Sport, so decided to treat her a little before the winter. I remember years ago Waxoyling my first cars (Escorts, Sierras etc)

Is there a preferred or better underseal these days? Ideally I just want something i can slap on with a paintbrush wile its up in the air on ramps on the driveway

Where actual “under-seal” is concerned, there is still no other product tougher and resilient to failure, I coated the underside of my 72 Bug when I restored it over 35 years ago, it is still perfect and flexible; unlike myself.... This though is a brush on product and you probably want spray on so what we now use for this is Dinitrol 3125HS which we spray on using a high pressure canister system and compressed air. The vitally important point is the ANY surface rust must be removed, treated and primed first or it will blister back through in no time. We do quite a lot of this but it is firstly, tiring, time consuming and health hazardous work even with the car 6 feet up in the air

Cheers guys, will probably take a look at the Bilt Hamber products

Crasher, your treatment looks the nuts, but a bit of hassle for me with it up on axle stands in my shorts and t-shirt on a driveway sadly..... Does look bl00dy impressive though!

I like it when there is also the budget to have the subframe powder coated but obviously not all my customers care about their Passat as this chap.

Discovered today that my b6 has what appears to my eye to be well established rot in the area of the right rear footing. I had recently after 10 years of ownership decided to keep this car forever, a future vintage machine. However I'm wondering of it might be possible to halt this rot using sone sort of a spray that I could apply myself from a can. I just want to halt the deteriation and further down the road I might get a professional to do a more comprehensive job such as that shown above by Crasher.

So, question is wether there are any recommended sprays which will soak into the rust and stop it, ideally protecting it for a couple more years pending something more professional. I see Dinitrol 3125HS gets a good mention above but has anyone used it on an amateur basis with the vehicle still on the ground or axle stands?20210218_111746.jpg20210218_111803.jpg

A quick search on web points me towards Dinitrol ML as being a candidate with apparantly good ability to wick itself into the rust. Might be an afternoon well spent liberally applying a few cans of this during sumner when rust has well dried out.

We do loads of these. Firstly we drop EVERTYHING except the tank including arch lines and heat shields. Each spot of rust get hammered with a needle descaler and wire wheeled with an air drill over the entire area

    Any rust holes repaired

Then all the rust spots are treated with Dinitrol RC 800

    Everything primed, Hammerite no.1 here

The the entire area sprayed with Dinitrol 3125HS as these are no abrasion and covered areas

I used this Isoflex Liquid Rubber | Thompson's Weatherpoofing (thompsonsweatherproofing.co.uk) on the sills (dont know why cars are lifted on sills it cuts through factory protection and exposes the metal and bends them)and a few bits underneath.

You're doing lovely work there crasher, I'm a long way from you but if any nearer Id be asking you for a quote. My big concern with the flexible rubber stuff above would be that it might trap moisture and hide the subsequent rot that moisture would cause.

Simply, they should not be unless using the cars own jack in an emergency which is designed to try and prevent sill damage, the trouble is tyre fitters don't give a ****. Earlier I went to pick up four tyres from the company we use as I won't take the car to them, just the wheels. A few weeks ago I saw a series 3 S3 in there up in the air all wheels off; one trolley jack in the middle of the sill one side and two at each end of the sill the other.
