    HI
I've checked thru the forum but haven't found anyone else with my problem. If I turn the ignition on the car does its self check and says OK. When I then start the engine without moving off the red brake warning flashes and I get 3 beeps.

If I get in, turn the key, and drive off I get no warnings at all.

The pads seem fine and there is plenty of brake fluid. Its a 2001 Tdi 130 sport with 68k miles.

The dealer has plugged it in and says there are no fault codes. Anyone any ideas?

p.s. Great forum - hope the rest of my posts aren't about problems!

I would guess a sensor has come off one of the front pads or faultly...

The Front Brake pads have a sensor on each one which indicates when the pads are low.

    maybe this is at fault??

If you hook it upto VAG-COM im sure something will be logged under the brake section.

I agree with Rick. When the red warning light comes on that's usually a serious problems or as Rick says, a lose connection.. I've had that when replacing pads and the connection is not fully home!!!

Thanks for the replies guys. I'll try the sensors and connections.

Funny I never get these problems on my 1970 MG Midget

Just thought I'd let everyone know what the problem was with my car - especially as it may become common over the next few cold months!
After the dealer could find no faults using vagcom and he had replaced the brake pads all round he managed to speak to an Audi mechanic who told him to check the power of the battery

    Problem Solved

Now I've got new brakes and a new battery

Was the battery just losing charge i take it??

its strange how that would affect it... but as you stay.. if it was just on start up and reduced power was powering the car it could do anything i guess!

I have just bought the car and the previous owner had only done 4k miles in the last 2 years. I was suspicious of the battery and had plugged it into my bike optimate. This brought it up again but I had noticed on some recent cold mornings the initial turnover was sluggish but the car always started. The fault must be quite common as it was the first thing the main dealer mechanic suggested.

Glad you got it sorted with a simple fix!

Got exactly the same problem with my 02 Avant. Turn over is a little sluggish so I guess I'll need a new battery too !!
    Very helpful post, thanks
