I was driving along a dual carriageway today and the drivers side wing mirror glass came flying out!
so I'm left with no mirror that side.
I tried a nearby Halfords to see if I could get a replacement glass but they didn't stock any for a C7 A6 as it is a special.
So I bought a towing mirror as a temporary solution to get me home safely.

Can anyone point me as to where I could buy one and how easy are they to fit?
does the replacement just stick on?
    I have heated folding mirrors.

I feel your pain! Count yourself lucky you don't have the auto dimming ones as I think that would require a severe bashing of your credit card at the dealer! For the standard mirrors micksgarage.co.uk and carwingmirror.co.uk both show a drivers door mirror glass for about £30. Easy to fit as they just clip in

Thanks johnsimcox, I'm pretty sure I don't have the dimming type of wing mirror.

So are the mirrors sold complete with a backing plate and it is the whole backing plate that needs to be replaced?

I'm assuming the backing plate is what is left of my mirror in the photo. Is it common for them to come unbonded?

Looks like the glass has came right off from the backing plate. I would take that back and say this is poor quality.
Last time I checked it was like £70 fitted for the glass from the dealers. The dimming ones are a few hundred quid.

Thanks A6S, the mirror was the original factory fit. The car is a 61 plate , so no longer in warranty.
Sounds like it is relatively easy to swap the backplate out with a new one and mirror glass.
I'll look to order a replacement and try to fit it myself.

Regardless being a 61 plate I would still go back. It's clear from your pic that the glass just fell off. That's pretty poor quality. My 99 plate Honda still has its original glass mirror with no signs of it falling apart and that has 130k on it

In the end I got a replacement glass from Ebay, which easily stuck onto the existing backing plate. Time to fix less than a minute. Cost £6.
Bought a spare passenger one too, in case that one goes the same way!
