Hope I'm not breaking any "unwritten" rules ... on the forum I've been on for 13 years starting a tyre thread (or an oil one !!) was almost a hanging offence !!

I knew when I bought the car it needed a set of boots, 'twas part of the "haggling" that went on

Question is ... what is recommended by actual users ?? Present tyres are 255/40 R20 Y (101)

    Options appear to be :

Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetric 2, Bridgestone Turanza T005, Continental Sports Contact 5, Pirelli P Zero, Michelin Pilot Sorts 4.

Although of a different size, I've had the Eagle F1's on the previous car (Vauxhall Omega) some years back, excellent grip, but a bit noisy, and a VERY short life !! It ended its time with me with the Pilot Sports 4 .. a nice tyre but again, a fairly short life.

The present tyres on the Audi are the Continentals, they have too little tread left to really set an opinion (2.4mm front, 3.0mm rear), and as the car is new to me I've not yet got around to playing "boy racer" and pushing the envelope (much )

Just wondering if there are any hard and fast opinions out there

    Regards

Hmmm do you have aftermarket wheels? The original A6 size is 255/35/20 97Y.
Also not sure re your statement on the short life of PS4s. They are probably one of the tyres with the best life span out there.
You might want to try the new F1 asy 5s - apparently the best ware rating out there at the moment...

    Hi, thanks for that

Definitely 255/40 R20 Y (101) boots on it at the moment. Wheels were a purchase option, according to the paperwork .. 20" parallel wheels .. cost the original purchaser £2445.00 !!!

On the Omega, PS4s only lasted 12,000 miles on the back, 16,000 on the front, that weighed slightly less (1700 kg) with slightly less power (212 bhp), on 17" wheels

I'm currently on my second set of f1's and can honestly say that I find them comfortable, quiet and reasonably long lasting. Will definitely get another set, I am on 18's though so that may make a difference.

Omega according to a database your tyre size 255/40 R20 Y(101) is correct for 20" wheels on an A6 Allroad.

My BE is still on it's original tyres. It has 255/35/20 97Y Bridgestome Potenzas. They are down to 4mm all round at 26k miles, so wear is pretty good. In the beginning I thought they were OK, but they are now starting to tramline quite badly. I can definitely feel the difference. On my last 2 A6s (1 x C6 and 1 x C7) I replaced the factory ones with Conti Contact Sport 5s in both cases and found them to be excellent. I'm not sure what I will go for next, but I've heard good things about the F1s too.

I run Continental ContiSport Contact 5. The tyre has a brilliant, fat, anti-kerbing lip that protects my alloys and the tyre has the silent-running foam insert (not sure if that is fitted to all sizes of tyre). I love them.

+1 for goodyear eagle f1 asymmetric 3. I don’t have an allroad so my size is 255/35/20 but I would think that 255/40/20 would be even more comfortable. I’m on the second set now.

Many thanks for all the responses .... Eagles seem to be popular, as do Continentals .. if folks wouldn't mind giving some idea of the mileages obtained I'd be grateful
