monday or tuesday gonna take the sump off and see what's in there
If you do end up replacing the balance shaft you will need the 8 balance shaft mounting bolts which are single use only (TTY)

As the balancer unit is seriously heavy I would not skimp and reuse the mounting bolts for the sake of 40 odd quid and would use new bolts. The ones holding the 2 halves of the balance unit are imo ok to reuse as the exact replacements and also the special shells / bushings inside the unit cannot be sourced from well, anywhere I know of in the UK. I do see refurbished balancer units with new shells online but have no idea where to source the new shells which have a cut out to match to the oil channels and are fairly small. I have seen a Polish video of a workshop refurbishing these balancer units and if anyone knows where to get the specific shells / bushings I would be eternally grateful, as I would like to renew mine whilst I am changing my main and rod bearings. I might just get a refurb u it for £350 but would prefer not to spend that much.

how important is the timing locking tool thingy?
do i really need that one if i'll replace the balancing shaft or that's mostly for when you do just the oil pump?
can i do without by any chance?

How do you think the engine will feel if a dirty great off centre weight is in the wrong place?

    I know what you mean
I was thinking more like, since my car does not have belts or chain, when you replace the balancing shaft , you can slot it in the propper way , balanced/in line with the counter weight one

Surely they have markings/dots on them and you can visually see if its balanced or not. Am I wrong?

The procedure is crank locked with a timing plate, the slotted wheel tipped up and key in slot, holding the key in whilst you find the
right place for the slotted gear by pressing (hard) in the NEW intermediate gear in with a non metallic block such as a rubber pad.

Just had two blokes in the e holding an oil pump "me mates changed this and still got no pressure" we showed him a worn drivekey, "have you changed this sir?"... "no mate"... FFS
